John: Hi, everyone. I'm John.
Ana Clara: And I'm Ana Clara.
John: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in Portuguese about an unusual thing found at a local market. Eduardo finds an unusual item at a local market, posts an image of it, and leaves this comment.
Ana Clara: Na feirinha, procurando óculos escuros, encontrei uma escultura igual à do meu falecido avô! Inacreditável!
John: Meaning - "At the fair, while looking for sunglasses, I found a sculpture that looks the same as my late grandfather's! Unbelievable!" Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.

John: Let's break this down. First is an expression meaning "At the fair, while looking for sunglasses."
Ana Clara: Na feirinha, procurando óculos escuros
John: In Portuguese, sometimes the diminutive is used for an unknown reasons. In this case, it can mean "a small fair," but it's also used to indicate big fairs. It can be used in an affectionate way, but not always necessarily. Sometimes, the use of a verb in the gerund form is good enough to replace "while doing something."
Ana Clara: Procurando óculos escuros
John: This phrase means, "while looking for sunglasses," even though it doesn't include the word meaning “while,” which is
Ana Clara: enquanto
John: Listen again- "At the fair, while looking for sunglasses" is...
Ana Clara: (SLOW) Na feirinha, procurando óculos escuros (REGULAR) Na feirinha, procurando óculos escuros
John: Then comes the phrase - "I found a sculpture that looks the same as my late grandfather's! Unbelievable!"
Ana Clara: encontrei uma escultura igual à do meu falecido avô! Inacreditável!
John: Sometimes people may put adjectives in front of nouns to give the sentence a more poetic intonation.
Ana Clara: Falecido
John: meaning "late, deceased" commonly appears before the person who's dead. But it's not a rule, as it can come afterwards as well. The phrase
Ana Clara: encontrei uma escultura igual à do meu falecido avô
John: means "I found a sculpture that looks the same as my late grandfather's." Finally, the last word...
Ana Clara: Inacreditável!
John: ...is used exactly like its English equivalent, "Unbelievable!" Listen again, "I found a sculpture that looks the same as my late grandfather's! Unbelievable!" is...
Ana Clara: (SLOW) encontrei uma escultura igual à do meu falecido avô! Inacreditável! (REGULAR) encontrei uma escultura igual à do meu falecido avô! Inacreditável!
John: All together, it's "At the fair, while looking for sunglasses, I found a sculpture that looks the same as my late grandfather's! Unbelievable!"
