Olรก, Alison,

the majority of the expressions are in Brazilian Portuguese, but the formal words and expressions are perfectly understood in both Brazilian and European Portuguese! Feel free to ask whenever you have any questions regarding this.

Regarding pronunciation, the speakers sound like a Brazilian accent. But this is not an issue if you go to Portugal, ok?

thank you for sharing!

I am trying to learn European Portuguese. I have found the 24 lessons in the European Portuguese series, but some of the words say (Brazil) in brackets. Why are those words in a European Portuguese course? Are they also used in Portugal?

Also some of the words in the vocab list don't sound the same as in the dialog. I don't want to pick up Brazilian pronunciation by mistake. Are all the words in the word list pronounced the European way?

Apart from the lessons in the European Portuguese series are there other lessons in European Portuguese?

Hi Arnaldo,

As an absolute beginner, we suggest you start with the very basics: the alphabet and how to read and write Portuguese. There is a whole series dedicated to the alphabet and learning how to write, so please consider starting there.

Another series that is worth watching really early in your Portuguese learning is our pronunciation-related lessons.

You would then be ready to start with one of our main series, the Absolute Beginner series.

The next step would be the Beginner series, then the Upper Beginner, the Lower Intermediate, Intermediate, and finally the Upper Intermediate series. Each lesson of these series contains a dialogue and focuses on grammar, vocabulary, vocabulary usage, sample sentences and cultural notes.

In between these series, you can of course listen or watch other series too, depending on what appeals to you and your needs. However, the core grammar is found on the aforementioned series.

Should you need extra help with grammar, check out our grammar banks:

As for enriching your vocabulary, you can check out the vocabulary lists:

We're constantly adding new content. Check out the other options under the menu ""Vocabulary"" as well.

Regarding your question on the present tense, the term "non past tense" may be found in the lessons. Please consider it as a terminology.

We hope this is helpful. If you have any more questions about the website or Portuguese, don't hesitate to contact us again.

Wishing you all the best!

Your lessons are sometimes very confusing to an absolute beginner.

If this is supposed to be present tense why do you call it "non past tense?"

Also the pronunciation is of poor quality. It is difficult to get the subtelies sometimes.....
