Lesson Transcript

Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What's your favorite number?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to say many numbers and ask someone their favorite number.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Qual é o seu número favorito?
É o número sete.
Once more with the English translation.
Qual é o seu número favorito?
“What's your favorite number?”
É o número sete.
“It's seven.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What's your favorite number?”
That's: Qual é o seu número favorito?
Listen to it again: Qual é o seu número favorito?, Qual é o seu número favorito?
“What's your favorite number?”
Now, how do you answer this question?
The pattern is:
É o número [number].
This Portuguese sentence literally means “It's the number [number].”
But it means “It's [number].”
For example:
“It's seven.”
É o número sete., É o número sete.
