HideOlá, PortuguesePod101 listeners! When you move to a new place, how do you usually get around? Do you ask for directions, unfold a map, use a GPS device? Leave us a post and let us know!
This is too easy

Olá Kim,
I am glad to hear that you are planning to visit the country!
Just a little note:
In Portuguese we write Brazil as "Brasil" (with "s") 👍

Hi Richard,
Thank you for your message.
"à esquerda" is an expression: "to the left." and "à direita", "on the right.". However, they may seem a bit too formal in a casual conversation.
In the dialogue's example: "Todas as minhas coisas estão no quarto da esquerda." ("All of my things are in the bedroom on the left"), the native speaker is more casual, so he's using "da esquerda" (on the left), as it may sound a bit too stiff saying "à esquerda".
In case of any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Cristiane

Todas as minhas coisas estão no quarto da esquerda
Or
Todas as minhas coisas estão no quarto à esquerda
Are they both right. How do I know if I use the da esquerda or the a esquerda?
Hi Jimz,
Great to have you here!
Just a minor suggestion:
"Eu estou começando a estudar português" (I'm starting to study Portuguese).
Regarding nationality, please check out our special video lesson:
"What is Your Nationality? Learn how to ask about someone's nationality"
https://www.portuguesepod101.com/lesson/learn-portuguese-in-three-minutes-11-what-is-your-nationality/
Therefore:
"I am from The Philippines" is "Eu sou das Filipinas"
and "I'm Filipino" is "Eu sou Filipino"
Looking forward to seeing you often here. :)
