Olá, PortuguesePod101 listeners! What's your favorite dessert food? Do you eat it only after a meal, or could you eat it as a snack, too? Leave us a post and tell us about it!

Eu adoro chocolate. Eu poderia comer chocolate na cafe da manha, no almoco, e no jantar. Mas eu no como chocolate tudos os dias porque eu não quero engordar.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for your message.

"Ficar" in this case has the meaning of " to fit, suit". For example: "Este vestido fica ótimo em você." ("This dress suits you great."/ "This dress looks great on you.").

Feel free to let us know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Cristiane

Qualquer coisa que seja maior que tamanho médio vai ficar muito grande.

"Everything that's larger than a medium size, will be too large.

Ficar again is annoying me. I used to think it was just (stay)now it's used for nearly every word. How does ficar translate to will be?

The hardest thing I find is getting my head around certain words meaning a hundred different things. I've been with my wife for 25 years and been all over brazil and I am still struggling on simple sentences. Wish the language was as easy as English

Olá Chad,

"tô" is a contraction of "estou" ("I am" from the verb to be (ser/estar) ). It's very used here in Brazil. :)

The lesson sentence shows "tô com vontade de tomar sorvete de milho verde" ("I want to eat some green corn ice cream).

It corresponds to "(eu) estou com vontade de tomar sorvete de milho verde". In this sentences, the meaning is "I want to eat", because of the "estou com vontade" (I wish/ I crave/ I want to).

Here are some more examples of the use of "tô":

"Tô morrendo de fome. Vamos comer um lanche?" (I'm starving. Let's go eat a snack?)

"Tô super atrasada pra aula!" (I'm so late for class!)

I hope it helps

What is "Tô"? Is this a verb conjugation I don't know? A contraction? Slang?

Sim, já comi. Tenho umas amigas de Bahia e de Minas.

Eu experimentei Mousse de Maracujá e um tipo de bolo com biscoitos e creme.

My Brazilian friends let me try passion fruits mousse and a type of cake that was made with biscuits and a lot of chocolate-flavored cream.

Eu também comi brigadeirão e um torta com creme e frutas frescas.

I also have tasted brigadeira and a no-bake pie with cream, topped with fresh fruits.
