I think this audio should be updated. It seems to have been recorded before the World Cup and Olympics with a very optimistic view of what those two events and what all the money poured into a very corrupt Brazil would achieve for the Brazilian economy. Now it is 2018 and there has been a recession in Brazil that in part is because of the World Cup and Olympics. I know university educated Brazilians who prefer to work as cleaners here in my country than return to Brazil, and I know others who are still in Brazil and the recession has affected them. There are many things to love about Brazil and good reasons to learn Portuguese, but certainly not for the economic prospects in my opinion.

Olá Jo,

Thank you for posting!

You're doing really great at Portuguese! Keep it up :)

Just a few minor corrections:

You can use lower case for:

"português"

"brasileira"

"inglês"

And there's just a missing comma here:

"Eu nasci e cresci nos Estados Unidos, então (...)"

Oi gente!

I'm learning Portuguese (again) because my mother is Brazilian and we might go to Brazil soon. I was born and grew up in the United States, so I have been speaking English all my life. Because of this, I lost a lot of my Portuguese. I want to pick up what I lost.

I'd appreciate it if anyone would let me know if there are any errors in my Portuguese.

Muita brigada!

Oi Darren,

Tudo bem?

Buying an apartment/house in São Paulo city is a bit expensive for a regular Brazilian citizen. But for a foreigner, if you consider the currency exchange rate starting from USD or Euro, the costs are quite friendly, as 1 Euro corresponds to about BRL 3.40 and 1 USD to about BRL 3.13.

Living in São Paulo city is good in areas with a good structure. For that reason it's good to check the place you'll live beforehand (convenience of transportation/ access to local markets, supermarkets and other shops/ price, etc).

Are you planning on moving to Brazil? That's great news :)

If you have any doubts, please let us know.

Is buying land in Brazil expensive? Are houses in brazil expensive too? (Near Sao paulo). Also, is it difficult to be a citizen of Brazil?

Hi Paloma,

I'm really enjoying learning Portuguese from this site. I have learned languages at university and this is the only self-study programme I have found so far that I like and have been able to engage in!

My reason for studying Portuguese: the Olympics!!! I am travelling to Rio in just under 2 months to attend the Paralympics as an official. I'm super excited and can't wait to try out my new Portuguese skills on local Brazillians! I already speak a fair amount of Spanish so I am hoping that I will pick up Portuguese with relative ease.

Thanks!

Dani
