Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Portuguese Season 1, Lesson 14 - When Are You Leaving? In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask when someone is leaving in Portuguese.

Eric: Here's the informal way to ask 'When are you leaving?' in Portuguese.
Ana: [Normal] Quando você vai embora?
Eric: First is a word meaning 'when'
Ana: [Normal] quando [Slow] quando
Eric: Next is the word meaning 'you'
Ana: [Normal] você [Slow] você
Eric: Next is the word meaning 'go'
Ana: [Normal] vai [Slow] vai
Eric: Last is the word meaning 'away, home'

Eric: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning 'When are you leaving?'

Eric: Now, imagine you're speaking to a stranger. Here's the formal way to ask, 'When are you leaving?'

Vamos só corrigir a sua frase:

Eu vou sair do *trabalho* *às* duas e meia.

We don't use "horas" when saying the time, only if it's a full hour: eg: Eu vou sair às duas horas. (but you can omit "horas" if you want)


We add "horas" when saying the duration: "Vai demorar duas horas e meia" (it'll take 2 and a half hours)

or "Eu vou embora assim que possível." (I'm leaving as soon as possible.")
