Eu gosto de visitar o zoologico. Eu gosto de olhar os leões, os leopardos, as chitas e os tigres. Eu gosto muito de gatos. Eu tenho uma gata bonita. Ela acha que é um leopardo.

Olá, Rachael!

Thank you for your question!

The plural of nouns that end in "il" depend on their classification regarding their tonic-syllable, so:

- for words with the tonic-syllable in the last syllable (what we call "oxítona" in Portuguese), we remove the "l" and add the "s", for example: funil/funis, barril/barris.

-for words with the tonic-syllable in last but one syllable (what we call "paroxítona" in Portuguese), we remove the "l" and add the "-eis": réptil/répteis, difícil/difíceis.

In case of any doubts, we're here to help.

Can you clarify the rule of making -il words plural? In the lesson, you said "drop the il and add ís. But in words such as réptil and útil, they drop the il and add eis (with no acento agudo). Which way is most common, and is there a way to know which rule to follow?

Thank you!

Oi Rommel,

You're right. It should be "bonitas" and "no Amazonas".

We've corrected the PDF already. Thanks for pointing it out!

I have seen the word "bonitan" on the pdf file. Is it a correct word?
