INTRODUCTION
In this lesson we're going to work on getting your package one step closer to its intended destination. In the previous lesson, we discussed the phrase Eu queria enviar este pacote para França which was "I want to send this package to France".
GRAMMAR POINT
Let’s hear it one more time:
(slow) Eu que-ria en-vi-ar es-te pa-co-te para Fran-ça.
Eu queria enviar este pacote para França.
Of course we can switch France for the name of any other country.
When sending a package, though, you will be asked what is inside the package. In Portuguese, "What's in this package?" is O que leva no pacote?
Let’s break it down:
(slow) O que le-va no pa-co-te?
Once more:
O que leva no pacote?
The first words o que mean “what”.
(slow) o que.
o que.
After this comes the word leva, which is a form of the verb ‘to take’.
(slow) le-va.
leva.
At the end we have no pacote, “in the package”.
(slow) no pa-co-te.
no pacote.
All together, it’s
O que leva no pacote?
English is perfectly acceptable to name all the things you want to send.
Another question that you will be asked is “Do you want to send it priority or normal?”
Quer enviar prioritário ou normal?
Let’s break it down:
(slow) Quer en-vi-ar pri-o-ri-tá-rio ou nor-mal?
Once more:
Quer enviar prioritário ou normal?
The first word Quer, is a form of the verb translated as “to want."
(slow) quer
quer
Then you have enviar which is the verb “to send”.
(slow) enviar.
enviar.
Next you have prioritário, which means “priority”.
(slow) Pri-o-ri-tá-rio.
prioritário.
After that we have ou, which means “or”
(slow) ou.
ou.
At the end we have normal, the Portuguese word for “normal”.
(slow) Nor-mal.
Normal.
All together, we have:
(slow) Quer en-vi-ar pri-o-ri-tá-ri-o ou nor-mal?
Quer enviar prioritário ou normal?
You may also be asked Quer enviar expresso ou normal? which means “Do you want to send it express, or normally?”
The word prioritário was replaced with the word expresso, translated in this case as “express”.
(slow) Ur-gen-te.
Urgente.
Let’s hear the phrase one more time.
Quer enviar expresso ou normal?
In English:“Do you want to send it express or normally?”
For the rules regarding which things you cannot send abroad, check the website, or ask directly at the post office.
