Boa tarde. Você pode me dizer que horas são?

Cara. É meia-noite... 😁

Olá Chad,

We use "meia hora" (half an hour) in sentences like this:

"A aula começa daqui a meia hora" (The class starts in half an hour)

But if you want to say the time, for example:

"São seis e meia" (It's six thirty)

You can omit "hora".

For 15 minutes, we use "quinze minutos" or "quinze", in the same way as explained above:

"A aula começa daqui a quinze minutos" (The class starts in 15 minutes)

"São seis e quinze" (It's six fifteen / It's quarter past six)

For 07:30, use: "São sete e meia"

Practice makes perfect

Keep studying and you'll soon be used to these expressions

Can you say "meia-hora" for half an hour? Though this may make sense, does anyone use this?

Can you say "quarta-hora" for 15 minutes, or quarter of an hour? Though this may make sense, does anyone use this?

e.g. S~ao seite horas y meia?
