Hi everybody, here's Paloma.
Welcome to Wipe Our Lessons.
Today's topic is Common Adverbs of Frequency to talk about Daily Habits.
Ok, so let's jump right into it.
First, let's see the adverbs.
Sempre
always
Todo dia
every day
Geralmente
usually
Às vezes
sometimes
Só
only
Quase nunca
almost never
Raramente
rarely
Notice that we have the both R's here.
Ha and Ra.
Raramente
ok?
Last one is nunca
nunca
never
Ok
now let's move on into the dialogue.
Você come de manhã?
Do you eat in the morning?
Sim, eu como pão todo dia.
Sim, eu como pão todo dia.
Yes, I eat bread every day.
So here we have the adverb, todo dia, every day.
Ok, let's see some more examples.
Eu geralmente tomo café.
Eu geralmente tomo café.
I usually drink coffee.
Café can mean both, coffee and it can also mean breakfast.
It's a short form to say café da manhã.
So it could also mean I usually take or eat breakfast.
Eu raramente tomo café da manhã em casa.
I rarely eat breakfast at home.
So you can see that we have two ways to use this pattern.
Eu, adverb and verb phrase or eu, verb phrase and adverb.
So as you know, eu means I and then you add the adverb, geralmente, raramente
and then the verb phrase.
And you can see the second pattern
eu, verb phrase, como tô and the adverb, todo dia.
So let's try with some more examples.
So we can change geralmente with sempre.
Eu sempre tomo café.
Or quase nunca.
Eu quase nunca tomo café.
I almost never eat breakfast or drink coffee.
We could also change this last one to another adverb.
Eu nunca tomo café da manhã em casa.
I never eat breakfast at home.
You could also change todo dia with another adverb.
For example, sim, eu como pão.
As vezes.
If you wanted to use another adverb from this list,
then you would have to use it before the verb phrase.
For example,
eu só como pão.
I only eat bread.
Eu geralmente como pão.
I usually eat bread.
In Brazil, we don't eat breakfast.
We take breakfasts.
And the funny thing is, the same verb, tomar, to take, also means to drink.
So that's why I mentioned it here.
In Toma um Café, it could also mean eat breakfast.
A common Brazilian breakfast always includes some coffee, of course.
We love coffee.
And we usually eat it with some French bread and butter.
We like to keep it light in the morning.
