John: This is Must-Know Portuguese Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 7. In this lesson, you'll learn classic slang that is used by everybody.
John: You can use these whenever and wherever, and you will be okay. These are very common and classic slang words and phrases in Brazil.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
John: The expressions you will be learning in this lesson are:
Ana Clara: cara de pau

John: Ana Clara, what's our first expression?
Ana Clara: cara de pau
John: literally meaning "wooden face." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "shameless, to have the nerve."

John: Use this slang expression when you want to say someone has "got nerve," when they have done something reprehensible but is not ashamed and acts like it's ok.

John: literally meaning "kitsch, inferior in taste." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "lacking finesse, kitschy."

John: Use this slang expression when you want to say something is aesthetically inferior, kitschy, and/or lacks refinement or even manners. It’s also used to say things and people are cheesy and overly sentimental. Be careful when you use this word, as some people might be offended.

John: "Jeez, this song is really cheesy!"

John: literally meaning "to tan or dye leather, to pickle." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to like, to dig, to enjoy."

John: Use this slang expression when you want to say you like, enjoy, or dig something informally.
