Eric: Welcome to 3-Minute Portuguese Season 1, Lesson 10 - Asking How Much Something Costs. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask how much something costs in Portuguese.

Eric: Here's the way to ask 'How much does this cost?' in Portuguese.
Ana: [Normal] Quanto custa?
Eric: First is a word meaning 'how much'
Ana: [Normal] quanto [Slow] quanto
Eric: Last is the word meaning 'cost'
Ana: [Normal] custa [Slow] custa
Eric: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the question meaning 'How much does this cost?'
Ana: [Slow] Quanto custa? [Normal] Quanto custa?
Eric: Now, here's the way to ask, 'How much does this cost?'
Ana: [Normal] Quanto custa isso?
Eric: First is a word meaning 'how much'

Ana: In Brazil, it’s very common to haggle when you’re buying in small stores. Here’s an easy way to ask for a discount - Tem desconto? It literally means "Is there any discount?" Many places may give a small discount if you pay them in cash.

Also, please don't forget to use an upper case for the first letter of proper nouns, such as "Chile" (country's name).
