Welcome to The Ultimate Portuguese Pronunciation Guide.
In this lesson, you'll learn 10 Portuguese consonant sounds.
These consonant sounds are identical to the ones in English.
So if you know English, they should already be familiar to you.
Are you ready?

The first consonant is...

abóbora - pumpkin
bola - ball"
It sounds like the B in the word 'buy'.

It sounds like the V in the word 'Vital'.

It sounds like the K in the word 'ski'. Be careful though, because this is an unaspirated sound, meaning there shouldn't be a burst of air when you pronounce this consonant. Place your hand in front of your mouth and pronounce words such as 'kite' or 'keep'. Could you feel the burst of air? Now compare that to the word 'ski'. Notice how the K in the word 'ski' *does not* produce a burst of air. This is how the Portuguese C sound should be pronounced.
